Portrait paintings was the way that an image of a subject or a scene could be captured before the invention of photography. We offer at auction large portraits and landscape scenes but also small miniature paintings which are often painted on bone or ivory. These miniature portraits are often of fine quality and date from the Georgian period up to the Great War, often painted as memorials to a fallen son or husband.
Larger Military paintings are popular with regimental collectors and also as interior design objects. Often housed in elaborate frames.
Paintings which show a historical figure, battle scene or painted by a famous artist can achieve the highest prices when offered at auction.
Military prints are only accepted if they are early examples, we do not tend to offer modern commemorative or limited edition prints.
