Quite often dismissed and referred to as a bygone time, the humble walking stick still carries great weight at auction. Canes and sticks have a very strong and loyal following and the more unusual or bizarre tends to drive the price further. The Victorians created all manner of designs and finishes from carved animal heads to the more suggestive stick that makes even the weather hardened auctioneer blush. More often than not it is a collection of walking sticks that comes through our salesrooms rather than an individual stick.
